The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, met on Tuesday afternoon with the residents of Tinasoria, made up of families residing in social housing, within the framework of the investment plan to modernize the neighborhoods of the capital. Since last August, the council has been carrying out works to achieve the comprehensive transformation of the neighborhood, in which nearly three million euros are being invested to renovate its streets.

Yonathan de León, who was accompanied at this meeting by the Public Works engineer of the City Council, explained to the residents that the comprehensive transformation of the Tinasoria neighborhood is part of "an ambitious project" to renovate the neighborhoods of Arrecife. With the works, which will be completed next spring, Tinasoria will change its urban image.

The renovation of the streets, which includes the comprehensive modernization of the urban block between Mosta, Mina, Francisco Matallana Cabrera and Los Caletones streets, will allow "residents to enjoy an accessible and beautiful urban environment in a few months, which will make them feel proud to reside in this neighborhood due to the new model of urban intervention in its streets." This is what the council indicates in a statement.

The Public Works engineer clarified the residents' questions and explained that public administrations must comply with accessibility regulations in their projects, which establish the minimum measurements of sidewalks, as well as the distribution of PRM parking spaces according to the volume of spaces intended for parking vehicles in public spaces.

The mayor defended that the city is in a process of change and having a city with shaded areas and trees on public roads is betting on a healthier city model, friendly to residents, and combating climate change.

Yonathan de León announced to the residents, at the meeting held in the neighborhood square, that the City Council is making efforts to develop a nearby land reserve, which will allow the neighborhood to have more parking spaces, green areas and parks for citizen use. Land that is currently private and classified as community facilities in the planning.

Accessibility in the streets of the neighborhoods and tree planting

The works that are already underway will allow a comprehensive modernization of the sidewalks, eliminating barriers and making them accessible, a new public lighting network, providing new lampposts with LED lighting for the streets of the neighborhood, a new network for the collection of rainwater - which until now did not exist - and the provision of trees in the streets where several groups of social housing are located. All new tree plantings will be equipped with drip irrigation.

Yonathan de León has detailed that, in parallel to the works that the City Council is carrying out in other areas of Arrecife, the neighborhoods are among the priorities of his Government group, and in the coming months new tenders will be launched to continue improving the neighborhoods of the capital of Lanzarote.

The mayor, as the direct head of the Department of Public Works, offered a press conference on Tuesday morning in the same Tinasoria square to explain to the media the characteristics of these works, the first transformation of a neighborhood undertaken by the Arrecife City Council in the last three decades. Along with the renovation of the streets, the transformation of the Estrecha Machín sports court into a sports hall will soon begin, with the addition of a roof and other improvements), and the remodeling of the two playgrounds in this area of Arrecife.

These improvements are joined, since last spring, by the works that are already underway for the modernization of sports facilities, the new lighting in several areas, the renovation of the asphalt pavement in nearly 150 streets, the improvement of accessibility on sidewalks and pedestrian crossings, as well as the renovation of playgrounds, including two in this area of Tinasoria and Los Geranios.
