Under the collaboration agreement approved by the Local Government Board on June 25, 2025, the Department of Seniors of the Arrecife City Council, led by Rosmen Quevedo, joins this Sunday, September 21, the “Remember Me” campaign, promoted by the State Confederation of Active Seniors (CONFEMAC) on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day.
The initiative conveys a clear and profoundly human message: dignity, emotion and the ability to enjoy through the senses remain intact in people with Alzheimer's.
Although the disease mainly affects memory, it cannot be reduced to that. Emotion is still alive. Those who suffer from it can be moved by a song, calmed by a caress or smile when they hear a beloved voice. Although memories of names or places fade, the way we make them feel always remains.
Councilor Rosmen Quevedo emphasizes: “From Arrecife we want to join this commitment: to look at people with Alzheimer's from what they retain, not from what they lose. Because their dignity is never erased, nor is their right to be treated with respect, affection and closeness.”
Finally, the councilor encourages all citizens to spread this message and share the campaign video, contributing to building a more sensitive, aware and respectful society with those who live with this disease and their environment.
