The first edition of the literary and film festival 'Lanzarote Negra' concluded this Saturday in Arrecife with very good sensations both for the quality of the authors gathered and for the satisfaction of the readers and film enthusiasts who enjoyed this noir festival for three days.

'Lanzarote Negra' was developed in collaboration with Cultura Arrecife and was sponsored by the Publications Service and the Department of Culture of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Tourist Centers and Tourism Lanzarote, as well as the contribution of Cine Club Lanzarote, the El Puente Bookstore and Hotel Miramar.

The head of the aforementioned Area in the City Council of the capital of Lanzarote, Councilor Abigail González, expresses her satisfaction with the development of this event "with which we have contributed to our city beginning to be a point of reference for people who love a genre that has many followers both in the cinematographic and literary fields."

For her part, the Minister of Culture and head of the Publications Service of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Ascensión Toledo, emphasizes "the impact that the development of this relevant project has had on the promotion and consolidation of our Island as a cultural reference, a purpose in which we are putting all our efforts from the Ministry"; and predicted that "surely very few editions will be enough for the consecration of the festival."

Renowned authors

Over three sessions, the Municipal Archive of Arrecife became the best setting for lovers of books and noir in the first edition of 'Lanzarote Negra' with renowned authors such as Carlos Salem, Carlos Bassas, Víctor del Árbol or David Llorente.

Saturday's session, the last of the festival, took place with the best of Canary Islands noir literature and the presentation of four works from different islands of the Archipelago after the more than deserved tribute to the great Alexis Ravelo: 'La sombra del océano' by Sergio Mira; 'Las cinco muertes de Jacinto Samitier' by Miguel Aguerralde; 'Gambuesa' by Carmen J. Nieto and 'Tres tes' by Carlos David Gutiérrez Robayna from Majorca, all moderated by Miguel Aguerralde himself.

The closing of 'Lanzarote Negra' took place in the cinema of the CIC El Almacén, also putting an end to the year of the collaborator Cine Club Lanzarote. Those present were able to enjoy a golden finale for both cultural initiatives with a classic of noir cinema, 'Perversity' by Fritz Lang in V.O.S. and the infinite knowledge of Ananda Segarra about one of the protagonists, Edward G. Robinson, after being the first person to translate the autobiography of the small great actor, in this case into Spanish.

A great afternoon to close a festival, 'Lanzarote Negra', which has arrived on the cultural scene of Lanzarote to stay and grow, year after year. All the presentations of the festival can be enjoyed through the YouTube channel of 'Lanzarote Negra'. They had a sign language interpreter thanks to Signalanz.

The journalist Gonzalo Mejías, director of Lanzarote Negra, explained after the closing that "we are very happy. We have managed to bring to Lanzarote the best of the noir literary scene in Spain, with special affection for the Canary Islands authors and, above all, for our beloved Alexis Ravelo. We hope to have been able to satisfy many readers and film enthusiasts on the island."

"Thanks to all those who have made this possible, to Councilor Abigail González who supported 'Lanzarote Negra' from the beginning from Cultura Arrecife. Thanks to all the collaborators and all the attendees. We will return in December 2025. Our 'Maltese Falcon' will return next year. 'Lanzarote Negra' has arrived to stay and respond to the love and passion of many inhabitants of Lanzarote for books and good cinema," concludes the director of the festival.
