The Department of Public Works of the Arrecife City Council concluded this past Monday the work on the accesses to two homes inhabited until now by squatters, located on Cienfuegos Street, corners with Colegio and Fajardo streets.

As is known, a fire occurred last Sunday in these properties, which were occupied by several people whose "poor coexistence" had been alerted by the neighbors. After the fire, the properties were vacated and the Arrecife Local Police set up a security device in the area.

The mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, transferred several teams from the Department of Public Works, under his direction, to carry out the work of walling up those accesses from the first hour of this Monday.

The works were completed during the afternoon, and this Tuesday, new teams of painters from the Social Employment plans, mandated by the mayor, are proceeding to clean up the entire environment.

Yonathan de León has been present personally supervising these works, just as he went on Sunday when the fire occurred, and was this Monday morning in the execution of the walling.

The mayor, directly responsible for the Local Police, has specified that the deployment of local agents from Sunday evening, and throughout Monday morning, was to guarantee security in the area given the dangerous situation due to the state of these properties, very damaged after the fire, the causes of which are being investigated.

The exterior of these houses is being painted white, and the area where windows existed has been recreated in green, very characteristic of the architecture of Lanzarote.
