The Arrecife City Council will offer its municipal bus service completely free during the day this Friday, on the occasion of World Car-Free Day. The celebration, which takes place in the main capitals of the planet, warns of the urgency of reducing the presence of private vehicles in urban environments, for reasons of hygiene, health, safety and quality of life.
"The municipal Government group maintains the sustainable mobility strategies and objectives initiated during the past term, with awareness actions, conferences and talks, traffic reduction or pedestrianization of streets and promotion of public transport and the use of bicycles for travel around the city", the Council says in a statement.
"We want the residents to experience the advantages of using the bus, which is not only a cheap option but also avoids the time we spend searching for parking and, in the process, we decongest the streets and avoid the stress associated with driving", said the Councilor for the area, Inodelvia Torres.
In her opinion, the shuttle that runs along the seafront between Puerto Naos and the Cabildo "is an example of successful action in sustainable mobility, as its use is massive and has allowed us to recover a privileged space in Arrecife for people -tourists, pedestrians, athletes, boys and girls, the elderly-, previously completely hijacked by cars".
