The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has announced on his Facebook profile the purchase of the Magma building on Manolo Millares street to relocate the technical office of the City Council. This decision comes after the City Council decided that La Recova "will host events compatible with the new market area and gastronomic stalls."
According to the newspaper La Provincia, the building that the City Council has just bought has equipment prepared for administrative use, which was owned by the Grupo Martínez Hermanos and previously was the Comercial Guadalupe headquarters. Arrecife has disbursed around 1.2 million euros (including taxes) in the aforementioned purchase, made after a bidding process in which there have been several offers, capital sources point out.
"Our capital will take a good turn in the recovery of spaces and emblematic places in the history of Arrecife. We have the technical projects, the investment, and the approval to undertake this modernization of Arrecife," commented de León on his Facebook profile.
In this way he has announced that in 2025 the Municipal Recova will be restored and opened as a Supply Market and Gastronomic Zone. "The premises, currently adjacent to the church and La Pescadería, will host stalls of the new Supply Market," he said.
Therefore, the administrative area that currently exists will be moved to other municipal buildings. "Today I have signed before a notary the acquisition of an administrative building on Manolo Millares street that will house new administrative offices of the City Council in the new year, when La Recova reopens as a market," he revealed.
"We are going to launch the restoration of the square next to the church of San Ginés, the recovery of the José Ramírez Cerdá Park and the footprint of César Manrique, the launch of the Manrique waterfall in the Charco de San Ginés (Morro La Elvira area) and the reopening of La Recova as a supply market and gastronomic area. Arrecife will take a good turn," he concluded.
