The Department of Urban Planning of the Arrecife City Council, led by Maciot Cabrera, has submitted this Wednesday to the Local Government Board the approval of new urban licenses that will allow the construction of 28 new homes in different parts of the city. The council has defended in a press release that these authorizations contribute to "expanding the residential offer and responding to one of the main concerns of citizens: access to decent housing."

With these new authorizations, the Urban Planning Area has already granted licenses for the construction of 272 new homes in the two years of Maciot Cabrera's management at the head of the aforementioned area, "consolidating a work pace that has allowed to promote numerous residential and urban projects in the capital of Lanzarote."

The new approved files include, among others, the construction of a building with a basement, two floors and an attic between party walls with 14 homes and 14 parking spaces on Sol Street, and a three-story building and attic with two basements, 14 homes, 4 unused premises and 26 parking spaces on Fajardo and Colegio Street.

The Councilor for Urban Planning, Maciot Cabrera, has highlighted that "the work of the staff of the Municipal Technical Office is essential to continue carrying out projects that not only promote the urban development of our city, but are also fundamental to respond to a social need as urgent as housing."

Likewise, Cabrera wanted to value the commitment of the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, to continue acquiring land to transfer it to the Government of the Canary Islands in order to promote new public housing developments on the island.

"This type of initiative is essential and complements the effort we make from the City Council to expedite licenses and facilitate the materialization of residential developments," Cabrera stressed.

The councilor also recalled that the works of 201 homes of autonomous ownership in the neighborhood of Maneje are currently underway. "These are decisive steps to alleviate the housing crisis suffered by Arrecife and alleviate the pressure on the rental market," added the mayor.
