Carlos Sáenz, auditor of the City Council of Arrecife and Teguise, has been dismissed this week from his position after the communication from the Public Service confirming the final judgment reached the Consistories. Sáenz was sentenced in the Proselan piece within the Unión case to 4 and a half years in prison for continued crimes of embezzlement and prevarication and to 8 years and one day of disqualification.

Sáenz has continued to perform his function in the Consistories after the sentence that became final by the Supreme Court was known in early January of this year. From the City Councils they have indicated to La Voz that temporarily the function of accidental auditor will be carried out by the qualified officials, as has already happened on other occasions.

In the case of the Arrecife City Council, an intervention official will be in charge of acting as auditor, while, in Teguise, according to Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Councilor for Urban Planning, it will probably be the engineer of the City Council. For the moment, "this will be the person in charge, since the Consistory is waiting for the Public Service to publish it in the BOE in 10 days or 15 days, and we will see if anyone shows up." "If not, what we are going to do is put it out to tender," Jiménez pointed out.

The Supreme Court confirmed on November 25, 2016 the sentence that condemned Carlos Sáenz in this piece of the Unión Case by considering that "it is proven that more than 250,000 euros were embezzled from the Arrecife City Council with payments to Proselan for services that were not provided." Thus, the recently disqualified auditor together with the former head of the Technical Office, Rafael Arrocha, and the businessman José Daniel Hernández were sentenced to four years, 6 months and one day in prison and 8 years and one day of absolute disqualification; as well as to return the embezzled money.
