The Governing Council has authorized, at the proposal of the Ministry of Finance and Relations with the European Union, the expenditure corresponding to the monetary contribution of 12 million euros to the Canarian Tax Agency so that it can proceed with the payment of the extraordinary and temporary fuel bonus in the non-capital islands.
Since its establishment, Lanzarote has not benefited from the aid, given that according to data from the Government of the Canary Islands, the 'conejera' island has not had to date prices sufficiently higher than those recorded in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, which must be, at least five, cents higher.
The processing and resolution of the bonus applications falls to the Canarian Tax Agency, therefore, with the item approved this Monday, it will be able to release the necessary funds to pay the bonus for the sale of fuel in the non-capital islands, as the applications from collaborating companies are resolved.
From February 2025, the Government of Canary Islands decided to extend the bonus to all non-capital islands in order to adjust the real costs borne by citizens in each of them compared to the two capital islands. For counselor Matilde Asián, it is a measure that corrects possible imbalances based, exclusively, on objective price data.
For this reason, a single amount has not been established, but rather the amount of the bonus and the islands where it applies are determined quarterly according to the prices of the non-capital island compared to those of Gran Canaria and Tenerife for the same period. The aid ranges between five and 30 cents per liter, depending on the price differential. If the difference is less than 5 cents per liter, it will not entitle to the bonus.
This extraordinary and temporary bonus is contemplated in this year's budgets of the autonomous community with effect until December 31, 2026. Currently, and until the next quarterly review, the amounts of the bonus have been set at 25 cents per liter for the islands of El Hierro and La Gomera; while in La Palma the bonus will be 20 cents per liter of fuel.
