Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (Aena) confirmed that until 4:00 p.m. this Sunday, 30 arrival or departure operations have been canceled at the Canary Islands airports. The highest number of incidents occur in Tenerife North with nine cancellations and at La Palma aerodrome, with eight, due to the strong wind blowing in the area, where a plane from Madrid had to be diverted to Los Rodeos.
In Tenerife South there have been six cancellations, while in Gran Canaria the five flight suspensions have been maintained since early morning. In La Gomera, where the wind also lashes the port area, the two morning operations have been canceled and they were waiting for the two that were scheduled for the afternoon.
Of the 821 operations that are planned in the Canary Islands airports for this Sunday, 378 had been carried out until 4:00 p.m., of which 128 belong to Gran Canaria, 44 to Fuerteventura, 67 to Lanzarote, 52 to Tenerife North, 72 to Tenerife South, 11 to La Palma, four to El Hierro and none to La Gomera.
Normality with the controllers
Likewise, Aena has confirmed that all the controllers on the afternoon shift have joined their jobs normally this Sunday.
The airports of the Aena network (Spanish Airports and Air Navigation)
have operated 2,470 flights until 6:00 p.m., so they operate with
normality. Specifically, 1,154 arrivals and 1,316 departures have been operated, and 99 arrivals and 66 departures have been canceled. There are approximately 4,060 flights scheduled for this Sunday in total.
The shift change in the control units has occurred with absolute
normality, since the vast majority of controllers on the morning shift have joined the towers and control units, a total of 263 of the 273 scheduled.
Aena recommends that passengers check with their airline the status
of your flight before going to the airport.
