The new mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, has already ratified the decrees to proceed with the opening to traffic of the maritime avenue, in a single direction, "as soon as the new road signs are completed on La Marina, Mancomunidad, Blas Cabrera Felipe and Ruperto González Negrín avenues." To this end, one of these decrees, signed by the Councilor for Transport and Mobility, Ángela Hernández, orders the current signage to be removed and the new road signs installed.

In this way, once the Department of Roads and Works has made the changes, the government group announces that it will proceed to open Avenida La Marina to road traffic, in the direction of the Reducto Beach area towards the Puente de las Bolas, while it will continue to be restricted in the east-west direction.

As La Voz de Lanzarote had already announced last Friday, the decision comes after the report requested by the mayor, which advises against opening in both directions. In this regard, the government group recalls in a statement that the works that were done to semi-pedestrianize the avenue would now require us to undertake our work, so "for now" it has been decided to reopen it only in one direction, "while continuing to maintain public transport services along this avenue."

Heavy vehicles will not be able to circulate

After signing the decrees, Ástrid Pérez held a meeting this Monday at the Mayor's Office with representatives of merchant organizations and several merchants from the center of Arrecife, where she informed them of the steps taken for this reopening.

According to the municipal resolution, signed this Monday, July 8, the entry to this section of the Avenida Marítima will be prohibited to any vehicle that exceeds 7.00 meters in length and 2.20 meters in width. For this purpose, new signage will be located near the Arrecife Gran Hotel roundabout, next to Reducto beach.

As for the east-west direction (Puente de las Bolas towards Playa del Reducto), entry will be prohibited, except for certain authorized vehicles, which will be duly identified. For this, the Roads and Works Area will proceed to implement the relevant signage with El Puente street, near the Puente de las Bolas and Calle Real.

According to a statement from the City Council, in this meeting with businessmen and merchants from the center of Arrecife, the mayor also "addressed other issues of interest and action plans of the new Government group to relaunch the capital of the Island with investments and revitalization."
