The Yaiza City Council will begin in February the program of events in homage to Víctor Fernández Gopar, of whom February 23, 2020 will mark the centenary of his death. The agenda of events, to be developed over the coming months, will kick off on Saturday, February 22, with the ceremony of naming 'El Salinero' as honorary councilor of the institution.
During the meeting, which will take place at 12 noon in the Plaza de Las Breñas, the sculpture created in his memory by the artist Cintia Machín will also be inaugurated.
Within the set of initiatives to "publicize, enhance and disseminate the greatness of the life and work of Víctor Fernández Gopar inside and outside of Lanzarote", and with a view to the centenary of his death, the Yaiza City Council recalls that in 2018 it sponsored the production of the documentary 'The time of salt. Following in the footsteps of Víctor Fernández Gopar', a 60-minute film directed by the poet and filmmaker Carmen Tortosa.
In addition, that same year the Administration sponsored the re-edition of the book of his verses that the writer Agustín de la Hoz had published in 1977.
