The Yaiza City Council paid tribute last Friday to the poet Aquilino García Vega, in an event that was held at the Benito Pérez Armas House of Culture.

A group of family members, including his daughters and granddaughters who came from Gran Canaria, as well as friends and acquaintances, accompanied the poet on this emotional day.

The Association of Poets La Arcadia was represented, for its part, by its delegate in Lanzarote Antonio Gutiérrez, and by Reyes Tabares, Antonio Fernández, Manuel Tabares and Ramón Rodríguez. Antonio Corujo was also present, who performed some of his well-known couplets, and the local poet Benjamina Marrero.

After thanking the Culture Department of the Yaiza City Council, and its head, Felicidad Cabrera, Aquilino García Vega reviewed his life and work, thanking all those who, in one way or another, have been part of his path.

Born in Gran Canaria, García Vega has resided in Playa Blanca for two decades. Dedicated to poetry, he has edited "Preamble of a poetaster, What is your truth?", "Be careful, brother!", and "Stories and fables of Nociaga". "The dreamer's chest", his latest and most recent work, is in the process of being published.
