The populous seaside neighborhood of Valterra, in the capital of Lanzarote, continues to be dedicated to the festivities of its patron saint, the Virgen del Carmen. The inhabitants of this historic area of Arrecife prepare their festivities not only for the enjoyment of the neighbors, but for anyone who wants to come and enjoy an endless number of activities that take place every year around this time in the neighborhood.
On Saturday night, Valterra dressed up for the election of Miss Valterra and the Queen of the Carmen Festivities 2005. With exquisite punctuality, as scheduled, at 10:30 p.m. the show began with a great discharge of light, sound and fireworks that delighted everyone present in the Parque Gobernador García Hernández of Valterra.
Immediately afterwards, the young ballet of the municipality of Yaiza, specifically from the town of Uga, under the direction of Ruimán Medina, a choreographer who works like a real wild boar to carry out this artistic group, took the stage. The performance lasted about fifteen minutes to open the gala.
Next, the names of the members of the jury were announced, who came out from the dressing rooms crossing the stage to the place from where they were going to judge the participants in the contest. Sara Arráez, Interview Lanzarote girl 2004; Ana Luna, advertising model; Noemí Barreto, Miss Lanzarote 2004; Jesús Gómez Singer; Francisca Viñoly, businesswoman; and Victoria Osarinkaya, director of the Nika modeling agency, were in charge of evaluating the participants.
Once the jury was placed in its corresponding place, the 10 participants of the gala went on stage dressed in typical Canarian costumes, to make a non-scoring presentation pass.
After this first pass, the musical performance of Alba Calero Calderón, who had participated in the Arrecife City Festival last Wednesday, where she had finished third, was given way. The young woman was applauded by the entire audience and left the stage with a very good taste in her mouth.
Then the second pass took place, this time scoring, in which the girls came out in bathing suits. The public did not stop applauding them.
After the swimsuit pass, the Uga ballet came back on stage, so that the girls had time to change their outfits. Then, the revelation singer of the Arrecife City Festival, Juan José López Torres, winner of the best choreography and best voice, as well as first classified in last week's contest, performed.
The young man did not disappoint the residents of Valterra and was almost more applauded than the passes of the beautiful conejeras who were vying for the title of Miss Valterra. Juan José performed three songs and once again made clear his good work on stage and with that prodigious voice that he has captivated all attendees. It should be remembered that the winner of the Festival will be representing Lanzarote in a presentation that Musicshop Producciones will carry out throughout the Archipelago. In addition, he will be able to participate in the International Song Festival of the Canary Islands.
After this brief musical pause, the candidates returned dressed in party dresses, designed by Willy Díaz, which highlighted the beauty and elegance of the girls. The dress was black.
The young woman from Lanzarote, Ana Nereida, took the opportunity offered by the organization of the festivities to present her album "Lindos sueños", which she performed on the night of the gala under the watchful eye of the residents of Valterra.
And finally came the decision of the jury, among whose members was also the participant of Gran Hermano, Niko, resident in Fuerteventura.
Yaleidi Ortega Rodríguez was proclaimed the brand new Miss Valterra 2005, while Idaira Cabrera Figuera took the title of Miss Los Marinos. For her part, Diana Santana Afonso was designated the Queen of the Carmen Festivities. Achintia Gutiérrez Urquía was proclaimed the first lady of the contest, while the prize for the second lady of honor went to Nefertari Cabrera García.
The other participants in the contest, Susana Gómez Rodríguez, María del Mar Díaz Padilla, Veronica Rueda Vizcaíno, Guacimara Artiles Nolasco and Paloma Plaza Martín took home a gift from the organization for having contributed their grain of sand to the show in one of the most traditional festivals in Arrecife.
