Luciano Borges and Cruz González, residents of Papagayo, reported to this newsroom that a citizen, whose plot borders their home, built and renovated a bar restaurant in the beautiful natural setting of the south of the Island without having the corresponding permits.
The head of the Local Police of Yaiza, Emilio Hernández, confirmed that several complaints have been filed with that security body in this regard and that they have in turn been forwarded to the Yaiza Town Hall so that it may take the measures that correspond to it as a competent public administration.
Also for noise
The restaurant is not currently operating as such and, according to information from the Local Police, the institution has also received complaints about issues related to the hygienic conditions of the establishment, the opening license, and noise.
The complaining neighbors say they are tired of complaining and complaining without the southern Consistory appearing on the scene. "This man does whatever he wants and the Town Hall, no matter how many complaints it receives, doesn't pay attention to anything," said a frustrated Luciano Borges, who also showed La Voz a copy of a letter written by two tourists who regularly visit the Island and especially the Papagayo area in which they express their discomfort, since said restaurant and the noise generated from there "contrasts with a natural reserve." The letter is dated August 2004.
More than 20 years in the area
Luciano Borges and Cruz González, who have lived in the area for more than 20 years, assured that they are so right that even the Department of Territorial Policy of the Cabildo about three years ago "already tore down part of the works for being completely illegal."
The neighbors warn that the bar restaurant also becomes a clear obstacle for visitors who pass through there on their way to the beach and that, to top it off, it is a source of infections due to the amount of accumulated garbage. They showed a photograph of a car full of waste parked since the month of August "from which rats come out through the windows."
Reprisals
According to the complainants, the owner of the restaurant has taken reprisals against them for taking the corresponding complaints to the authorities. "The owner put a motor to operate behind our house just to annoy us and also parks cars in inappropriate places with the sole purpose of bothering us," said Borges.
The neighbors believe that the establishment "has nothing of a restaurant" and ask that the Local Police and the Civil Guard investigate "the true activity of the property" because they presume that it is "a cover" for illicit activities.
