Within a few decades, the current baby residents of the municipality of Tías will be able to learn about their ancestors, their great-grandparents or great-great-grandparents, whose testimonies have been recorded in a human documentary made about their lives by the Tías City Council, through the Department of the Elderly.

¨A whole life, a great experience¨ (title of this documentary, 18 minutes long under the direction of the young filmmaker from Tías, Saúl Rojas Suárez) compiles the experiences and memories of 16 grandfathers and grandmothers from the municipality of Tías, with an average age of around 90 years, and premiered last night during a tribute recognition from the Tías City Council to the grandparents of the municipality. The initiative, launched by the Department of the Elderly of Tías, under the direction of Councilor Aroa Pérez, was attended by a large audience that packed the La Ermita de San Antonio art room in Tías.

The screening, which was attended by the 16 starring grandparents and their families, was held within the cultural program of the City Council for the San Antonio festival. The protagonists have narrated in front of the cameras how they lived through the time of the Spanish Republic, at the beginning of the 20th century, the Spanish Civil War, the Second World War, the hardships due to the continuous droughts in the Lanzarote countryside, the arrival of drinking water to their homes or the presence of the first tourists in Lanzarote walking among the famous tomato plants of Mácher.

The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, accompanied by the Councilor for the Elderly, Aroa Pérez, were present last night at this event where the City Council presented each protagonist with a portrait frame with the image of each of the honorees and whose images are part of a retrospective exhibition of their careers and experiences. This emotional exhibition can be visited until the end of this month of June, in whose opening ceremony was attended by the Municipal Government group.

Pancho Hernández highlighted during his speech that this legacy, narrated by the elders of the municipality, will allow the direct descendants of these octogenarian conejeros to have a visual and sound document where a generation of neighbors will be remembered, who from nothing, made with their efforts and sacrifices what Tías is today, currently as a municipality. Families who got ahead thanks to the tenacity of their parents.
