The San Antonio de Padua festivities in Tías experienced their big day this Wednesday with the procession in honor of the saint, which traveled along the Avenida Central Alcalde Florencio Suárez.
The solemn mass was presided over by the priest Sixto Álvarez, parish priest of Yaiza, who this Wednesday accompanied the head of the parish of Tías, the priest Agustín Lasso, in the celebration of the patron saint of the poor and of people looking for a boyfriend or girlfriend, as the Church remembers. In his homily, he highlighted that "San Antonio de Padua, Doctor of the Church and patron saint of the poor, teaches them the beauty of sincere and free love", as the Pontiff did in the Vatican,
After the Eucharist, where bread and chocolate were distributed as tradition dictates in these Tías festivities, the image of the saint went in procession through the main artery of the center of Tías, the Avenida Central Alcalde Florencio Suárez. On this road is located the primitive hermitage of San Antonio - today a cultural center - and the new church, built in the 60s of the last century.
The procession route, which was attended by the mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, and several councilors from the government group, was accompanied by the Tías Acuarti Municipal Band and the Gaida Folk Group, which made an offering and dance in the church square before the image of San Antonio, surrounded by many parishioners. Attendees at this religious celebration took away a souvenir with the image of the saint on a prayer that, as the parish priest of Tías, Agustín Lasso, commented in the mass, "was a pending issue. "And this year we have fulfilled it," he pointed out.
Within the cultural program for the San Antonio festivities, the Tías Municipal Theater hosted the play 'Manning' on Wednesday night, where the young Lanzarote actor Pedro Ayose, megaphone in hand, brought the audience to their feet.
Los Morancos Show
The San Antonio festivities will face their closure from this Thursday and during this weekend with a "powerful" program by the City Council. The Tías Wrestling Arena, the covered facilities with the largest capacity in the municipality and on the island of Lanzarote, will host the performance of Los Morancos on Thursday night, starting at 9:00 p.m., who will arrive "by bus" as Jorge and César Cadaval have shared with laughter in a video that has gone viral on the networks and will land in Tías to make people laugh with their parodies "where national and international current affairs will be present in the different humorous sketches".
This Andalusian duo will begin their tour of the Canary Islands in Tías where, in addition to performing at the San Antonio festivities, they will do so in other towns on other islands of the Archipelago. Los Morancos will fill the Tías Wrestling Arena, as confirmed by the Councilor for Festivities of the City Council, Francisco Javier Aparicio Betancort, to make the more than a thousand people who have purchased tickets enjoy the new show of the brothers
"They bring with them a hilarious compilation of their most popular characters, such as Antonia and Omaíta, and the musical parodies that are currently successful on the Internet," they point out from the City Council, from where they explain that tickets for this event went on sale a few weeks ago and "more than a thousand people" have already purchased them.
