The La Tegala sociocultural center, in Haría, hosted last Friday, the 1st, the closing ceremony of the 2011-2012 academic year of the Young Music School of the municipality. The event was attended by more than 100 students, who are enrolled in this school.
Thus, most of the young people who have received musical training this year passed through the stage, who performed in groups and individually, in which they demonstrated the musical knowledge acquired during the course, according to the Haría City Council.
The students of the basic musical training course performed several songs, while those of the percussion group imitated the sounds of various instruments using their voices. The public was also able to enjoy the choral group and the solo and small group performances of the rest of the participants.
At the end of the event, the mayor of Haría, José Torres Stinga, accompanied by the Councilor for Culture, María José Martín, and the Councilor for Youth, Christian Avero, presented the students of the school with their corresponding attendance diplomas.
The school residence celebrates 30 years
In addition, last Friday the municipality also celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Haría School Residence. For this, an open day and a party were organized, which was attended by many of the students and workers who have passed through the center over these three decades, such as the mayor of Haría himself.
In total, about 200 people, including students, teachers and non-teaching staff, enjoyed the events organized to commemorate this anniversary, which consisted of an exhibition on Canary Islands Day, the placement of exhibition panels on the residence and a reminder, not only of the 30 courses that have passed through it, but also of the activities, workshops and excursions carried out over these years.
After the musical performance by one of the students of the center and the gratitude of the director, Carmen Gloria Figuera, there was a recognition of her predecessors in office, as well as the most veteran staff. All this before the performance of the parranda Pal Porrón and the toast among all the attendees.
The Haría School Residence opened its doors in the 1981-1982 academic year to respond to students from the island of La Graciosa and those from Lanzarote who did not have a secondary school in their town or municipality. At that time, there was only one institute in Arrecife and another in Haría.
Once it was put into operation, the School Residence also attended to children with problems derived from unfavorable socioeconomic environments, thus guaranteeing adequate social and school care.
