Lanzarote music lovers, in general, and lovers of Portuguese fado, in particular, are in luck. There are few opportunities to see a live fado concert on the island, the popular Portuguese root music. And of course, the opportunity to see and hear Teresa Salgueiro, the most recognized voice in the world for having been, and continuing to be, for years the vocalist of Madredeus, the most famous fado group outside of Portugal, is not presented every day.

And that unique opportunity will be presented this Wednesday, when Teresa Salgueiro presents "La Serena", her latest work that she has created in collaboration with the Lusitana Emsemble string quintet. The concert will be on Wednesday, February 4, at 9:00 p.m., at the Teatro Insular, in Arrecife. This performance is included in the concert series "Mujeres 28º, 15º", organized by the Obra Social de La Caja de Canarias and which comes to Lanzarote thanks to the sponsorship of the Education and Culture area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.

Tickets for this concert cost 30 euros, and can be purchased at the El Almacén Island Culture Center or at the Theater box office one hour before the start of the concert.

After that small momentary stop in the trajectory of Madredeus, Salgueiro took the opportunity to embark on new projects outside the group that has made her famous and among them is "La Serena", the show with the Lusitana Ensemble string quintet and that she will present in Lanzarote, but also her solo album entitled "Você e Eu".

But the work that brings her on tour through the Canary Islands, "La Serena", is like a journey around the world through several of her melodies. Songs from Portugal, France, Italy, Mexico, Brazil and Africa in a journey through space and time. Songs like "La Vie en Rose", "A velha infância", a theme performed by Tribalistas, and "Mar azul", by Cesária Évora from Cape Verde (who was on January 21 at the Teatro de San Bartolomé), will also be heard in Salgueiro's voice together with the string quintet that accompanies her.

Salgueiro has also sung on albums by Carlos Núñez and António Chainho from 2000. In December 2005, she released her first CD, "Obrigado" (which means 'Thank you' in Portuguese), with the participation of other musicians such as the Brazilian Caetano Veloso, the Galician Carlos Núñez, the Catalan José Carreras, the Japanese accordionist Coba. She is considered one of the best and most well-known Portuguese singers. Furthermore, in April 2007, Teresa Salgueiro together with the Septeto de Joâo Cristal released "Você e eu" (EMI), a work where Teresa sings to Brazil
