The Uga Livestock Show celebrated its fourteenth edition this weekend at the Yaiza fairgrounds. According to the press release issued by the Yaiza Town Hall, "the balance has been more than positive in the number of visits." The event was organized by the Yaiza Town Hall in collaboration with the Lanzarote Council.

The southern Town Hall values "above all the recognition of the island's society to the effort and performance of the sector led by dozens of women and men dedicated body and soul to the livestock farms of the different cabins of the Island." In this sense, it insists that more than the 400 specimens exhibited in Uga, the Show showed the vitality of a sector that "has been able to cope with the price increases of production costs while maintaining the quality of the products that reach our table."

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, appreciates "the commitment of the island's farmers, the organization of the Show and the reception of the public who with their presence and opinions praise the work of the sector." Noda also highlights "the work of the team of the Department of Primary Sector of Yaiza, led by Fátima Viñoly, and the unwavering dedication of the municipal workers who carried out the tasks of assembly, maintenance and public attention of the Show, as well as that of the collaborating companies and entities."

The vice president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Román Rodríguez, who made the tour of the premises with the mayor this Sunday, also wanted to underline the municipal effort and the island's support.

The Show awarded the best specimens: Quesería Montaña Blanca, best machorra specimen; María Jesús Tavío, best dairy goat specimen; Finca de Uga, best ram specimen; Juan Hernández, best batch of goat livestock; Finca de Uga, best batch of sheep livestock; and Finca de Uga, best male specimen of the Show.

"People enjoyed the visit with their families, children's recreational workshops, cheese tastings, traditional milking and endless activities programmed over three days," said the Yaiza City Council. There was also time for debate and reflection at the meeting of farmers from Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and in the streaming colloquium that opened the Show with the participation of primary sector workers and people linked to training, a space for analysis on the problems and opportunities that the public can review on the municipal website.
