The Lanzarote Tourism Federation (FLT) has denounced the "poor condition" in which "many green spaces on the island of Lanzarote are found, especially in tourist centers", pointing out that "they require periodic maintenance of the island's palm grove, landscaped areas in roundabouts, flowerbeds and greater public endowment in purified water irrigation infrastructures." A situation that affirms that "it is also harming the gardens of lodging establishments or golf courses".

According to what they have indicated from the employers, "the state of abandonment of palm trees, garden areas and green areas leaves much to be desired, a situation that translates into a bad image of Lanzarote as a tourist destination." Thus, it affirms that it is transmitted by the "complaints of citizens and passers-by" and "also the farmers" and therefore demand immediate action and urgently request an effective irrigation plan for the recovery of vegetation as well as cleaning of green spaces, "so that Lanzarote can recover an image of a more attractive destination before the expected arrival of tourists in the summer".

"The lack of water is evident and shows the state of abandonment and deterioration offered by these spaces due to the lack of irrigation and pruning of vegetation that grows uncontrollably," they lament from the sector.

In addition, they point out that "unfortunately this situation is not new", pointing out that the hotel association, Asolan, already denounced in 2019, before the Lanzarote Water Consortium, the lack of supply of purified water for irrigation in lodging establishments, "being forced to use general supply water at a high cost, an unsustainable cost to maintain gardens in good condition, especially in this crisis situation that the tourism sector is suffering".

"The golf courses are in the same situation, which have an important green area", points out the Lanzarote Tourism Federation, which affirms that "it is unfeasible not to have purified water for irrigation". "The golf courses are an important tourist and sports attraction on the island, they need to recover the vegetation and be ready for the arrival of tourists," he adds.

"The image of a tourist destination like Lanzarote is key and must be taken care of, also going through embellishing and improving the public gardens it has, promoting the review of the proper maintenance of the same, whose current state is unacceptable for a leading tourist destination", concludes the employers.
