New technologies are getting closer to the residents of rural areas, such as Teguise, thanks to the launch of telecenters, which since last year allow free access to the network via satellite. During the first semester of the year alone, more than a thousand people have come to these centers located in Caleta de Sebo, Soo or Caleta de Famara, which will be visited these days by Toni Sanahuja, communications director of the "Red.es" program.
The initiative, which has been very well received, has been launched by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), the provincial councils, the cabildos, island councils and the autonomous communities of a single province, as well as the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce and Red.es.
The Telecenters Program is aimed at municipalities located in rural areas and disadvantaged urban centers. Its main objective is to facilitate access to new technologies for both rural populations and less integrated groups, in order to achieve their effective participation in the Information Society. It is not surprising, therefore, that the largest municipality on the Island has the largest number of centers, since in addition to those mentioned in Teguise, the Muñique and Los Valles rooms operate, which will enter this new promotion initiative in a few weeks.
