“RETRÁTATE” Exhibition in San Bartolomé

This Friday, December 18 at 11:00 a.m., the exhibition "Retrátate" was inaugurated, consisting of exhibition cubes located in the pedestrian area of Casa Cerdeña; in Plaza León y Castillo next to the portal, and in the Plaza next to the San Bartolomé Town Hall.

In May 2020, the teachers of the Plastic and Visual Education department of IES San Bartolomé devised an activity to motivate their students, who were still in the confinement phase: to portray the healthcare personnel who voluntarily sent a photograph from their workplace. This small initiative became the "Retrátate" project, in which more than 150 students and teachers participated as illustrators, and 180 workers from different hospitals and health centers, security forces, emergencies, civil protection, etc., not only from the island but also at a national and European level.

The inaugural event was attended by the mayor, Alexis Tejera, Yeray A. Pérez Crespo, director of IES San Bartolomé, Brais Martínez Aneiros, vice-director of IES San Bartolomé, Noemy Montes Díaz, drawing teacher at IES San Bartolomé, Celeste Callero Cañada, island director of Education, and Noelia Umpiérrez Luzardo, director of the Lanzarote Health Area. Several of the students who made some of the portraits, and the councilors of Culture, Isidro Pérez, Education Alma Maria González, and the councilor of Health, Raúl de León, also joined the event.

The mayor congratulated IES San Bartolomé for this "so supportive and admirable project, which rewards the work of each of the people who make up the staff of hospitals, health centers, outpatient clinics, or security forces, among others, for the great work and the work carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic. Thanks to the management team, the teachers involved, and especially to all the people who participated by sending their photos so that the students, with all their hearts, could capture the images in portraits with great creativity. A very interesting sample is made available to the public, encouraging them to visit these cubes full of solidarity and recognition."
