Many residents of Tías have supported the Virgen de La Candelaria this Sunday, the 28th, in the first edition of its pilgrimage and offering. The Tías City Council included this pilgrimage in the program of its patron saint festivities at the popular request of the residents of the municipality.

This new pilgrimage departed after 12 noon from the area of the Hermitage of San Antonio, on the Central Avenue of Tías Alcalde Florencio Suárez, crossing the Camino de Los Fajardos, where, according to history, the construction of the church of La Candelaria was planned in the 18th century. Finally, the definitive location would be in the Las Cuestas area, at the foot of Montaña Blanca, from where the entire town of Tías and the coast of Lanzarote can be seen.

The pilgrimage was enlivened by the songs and dances of various folk groups and parrandas, including the Los Aceviños groups, who traveled from Tenerife, and Alfaguara, from the island of La Palma, Agrupación Gaida, originally from Tías, and the Parranda Raíces, which also offered a cheerful performance in the Plaza de La Candelaria, at the end of La Romería. The groups from Tenerife and La Palma had also been invited to participate in the XI Tenderete Canario Candelaria 2018 that took place on Saturday night at the Tías Municipal Theater, within the festive program.

Among those attending the pilgrimage procession were the mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, the councilor for Festivals, Francisco Javier Aparicio Betancor, Lázaro Marín Bermúdez, the town crier of the festivities in honor of La Candelaria and San Blas 2018, and the parish priest of Tías, Agustín Lasso, who wore pilgrim attire throughout the journey. Attendees enjoyed a fun morning, where the wind calmed down, and almost at the end of the journey a light and fine drizzle appeared to cover the sky of Tías.

Along with the mayor and councilor of Festivals, several councilors from the Government group and the different political groups of the Municipal Corporation attended.

At the request of the Parish, the pilgrimage was also, in this first edition, an offering of perishable products for families without resources that will be distributed through Cáritas. The image of the Virgen de la Candelaria, patron saint of Tías, came out to the central door to receive the hundreds of pilgrims who came to this first event in the patron saint festivities of the Island.
