The puncture of a light aircraft during the landing operation at Gran Canaria airport has caused the runway to be blocked and three flights diverted to Tenerife North, one of them from Lanzarote.

Air traffic controllers have pointed out that the aircraft was carrying out aerial photogrammetry work and suffered a puncture on runway 03L, leaving it blocked, while the other runway, 03R, is closed for works.

This circumstance has meant that up to six aircraft have been waiting for the aircraft to be towed and the runway to be unblocked, which finally happened at around 4.15 pm.

However, a flight from Paris was diverted to Tenerife North Airport as it was unable to cope with the delay in waiting to the east of Gran Canaria, although it is expected to refuel and return to its original destination.

Similarly, two other aircraft from Lanzarote and Tenerife North respectively had to be diverted to Tenerife North to refuel, as they could not continue waiting.

Finally, the air traffic controllers pointed out that once runway 03L at Gran Canaria airport was clear, they began to release the traffic that was waiting to land, as well as the traffic waiting to take off.
