Tías finished on Sunday night the celebration of its patron saint festivities in honor of La Candelaria and San Blas. And if on Saturday the patron saint of the municipality, the Virgen de la Candelaria, went out in procession, who this year premiered her new mantle, on Sunday afternoon San Blas did so, surrounded by the residents of the town in his small tour of the Plaza de La Candelaria.
The religious function in honor of San Blas was attended by the mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, the Councilor for Festivities, Francisco Javier Betancort, the councilors of the government group and councilors representing the political forces present in the municipality. After the procession, the parish priest of Tías, Agustín Lasso, made the blessing of the cords of San Blas that were distributed among the parishioners to protect themselves against colds and infections of the vocal cords, as tradition dictates with this saint.
The program of the patron saint festivities of Tías in honor of La Candelaria and San Blas, had on the night one of the great cultural and musical proposals that the Department of Festivities of the City Council of Tías incorporated in the festivities, with the collaboration of the Guágaro Association.
XV Meeting of Timples
The Municipal Theater of Tías was packed with public to enjoy the show 'A Tierra' where great voices of folk song in the Canary Islands and prominent timple players joined to offer a special show that had the Canarian timple as its axis. A timple that, as Domingo Rodríguez El Colorao highlighted, left Lanzarote for Fuerteventura, and last night returned crossing La Bocaina to leave everyone surprised with this great show with unique Canarian players and voices.
With this XV Meeting of Timples La Candelaria and San Blas, Tías put an end to its patron saint festivities of 2019. In this edition Domingo Rodríguez El Colorao, originally from Fuerteventura, performed together with his two daughters, Juan Carlos Pérez Brito, Abelardo García El Tormento, Fabiola Socas, from Tenerife, and the lyrical voice of Ciro Corujo, brother of the tenor Pancho Corujo, and member of an important family linked to song and folklore in Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. José Manuel Toledo, from La Graciosa, put the accent as a representative of the good folklore of the eighth island, and a member of a large family of revelers and timple players.
Surprises off the program
The nearly 500 people attending this meeting were pleasantly surprised when they saw on stage Antonio Corujo, disciple of the good verses of Víctor Fernández Gopar El Salinero, and the centennial Juan Machín, who with humor and strength released several isas and folías that were applauded by the devoted public.
From the City Council, the government group wished for this 2019 a cultural and musical program with special emphasis on Canarian identity, as was the performance of Los Sabandeños. The concert of this Canarian musical group was recorded by TV Canaria for its program Noche de Taífas, which was broadcast on television on the night of Saturday, February 2, the feast of La Candelaria.
