The Martínez Hermanos Foundation (FMH) is raising funds through a crowdfunding campaign (GoFundMe) to help and support the people affected by the chain of explosions that took place last Sunday, March 7, in the city of Bata, the economic capital of Equatorial Guinea. The non-profit organization has almost eight years of experience in cooperation between the Canary Islands and Equatorial Guinea in the fields of health, education, and sports.
"The detonations caused by negligence in the protection of a dynamite arsenal in the Military Barracks of the Rapid Intervention Unit of Nkoantoma, as reported by the country's Government, have left devastating figures, with nearly a hundred deaths and more than 600 injured so far, half of whom remain admitted to the Bata Regional Hospital, the La Paz Medical Center, and the Guinea Salud Polyclinic. It is not ruled out that these figures will increase, as there are still people under the rubble. Just yesterday, the Civil Protection and Fire Department rescued more than 60 people," explain from the Martínez Hermanos Foundation.
As a result of the deflagration, which affected victims and structures within a radius of 20 kilometers, "thousands of people have lost their homes." Therefore, the Martínez Hermanos Foundation has launched a fundraising campaign to collaborate with this solidarity cause to respond to the humanitarian crisis experienced by the population of Bata.
The Foundation is already providing assistance to those affected after the explosions, but says that "more help is needed." "We have started with the distribution of basic necessities and sanitary products among the population, supplying medical-surgical material, food, drink, clothing, and whatever is necessary to those affected in the Bata accident who have lost everything. On the other hand, we continue with the coordination work to equip the shelters with the appropriate material (mattresses, sheets, and blankets) to accommodate the displaced people," he details.
Because "any help is little," the Martínez Hermanos Foundation makes a call to everyone who can collaborate to join this cause. They can do so through the following link: Martínez Hermanos Foundation Campaign: BATA - Help for those affected in Equatorial Guinea (gofundme.com).
The solidarity campaign, which so far has had the contribution and support of more than 180 donors, aims to reach 40,000 euros.
"It is time to collaborate and work together to overcome this difficult test. Let's help those who have lost everything," conclude from the Martínez Hermanos Foundation.
