The judicial commission has finally executed the eviction of Luis Manuel Torres from his home in Argana, despite the fact that more than 150 people were fighting to stop it. Social pressure has not managed to stop the eviction of this man this time. "The police threw a girl and everything," said indignantly Andrés Medina, former president of the Argana neighborhood association, who also criticized "the deception" of the judicial commission.
"This is a disgrace. The police came in pushing, they don't respect anything. And, meanwhile, the judicial commission does not come to reason. We have asked them to call the Courts, where Luis's public defender is, but they did not want to do it," Medina insisted, referring again to the document in which the company that bought the houses committed to the seller, the Bishopric of the Canary Islands, to relocate the families until their death or compensate them.
The judicial commission arrived at the scheduled time, at 10:00 a.m., and the spirits were heated, as Medina admitted on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero. It was difficult for the National Police and the commission to reach the door, given the large number of people who were concentrated in this man's home.
"They have deceived us"
But, in addition, Medina has assured that they have "deceived" them. In this sense, he explained that people have relaxed after being told that the eviction had been stopped. "People were happy, but they took a side and suddenly changed the lock," this neighbor criticized.
"Some girls fell to the ground. I know that the Police are doing their job, but they have to be careful that we are not criminals. It is normal for people to want to defend themselves," Medina insisted, who does not understand why the Court "does not deign" to study this case again, after the discovery of the agreement between the company and the Church.
The evicted man is "very bad", and will have to go to live at his sister's house. He is 56 years old, has a pacemaker and receives 426 euros in aid.
