The headquarters of the César Manrique Foundation will host a conference by Joaquín Estefanía next Thursday, June 14, at 8 p.m. entitled 'The Tribe of Moles. Rebel Youths'. The intervention is included in the Fronteras y direcciones del progreso (Borders and Directions of Progress) reflection space, which has already included the presence of Jorge Wagensberg, Vicenç Navarro, Tzvetan Todorov, Ignacio Ramonet, Jorge Riechmann, Rafael Argullol, Ulrich Beck, Marc Augé, Sami Naïr, Susan George, and Daniel Innerarity, among others.

Joaquín Estefanía holds a degree in Economics and Information Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid. He has been director of the newspaper El País, director of Publications of the PRISA Group, Opinion director of El País and director of the School of Journalism of the Autonomous University of Madrid-El País. He is the winner of the Europa de Periodismo Prize for his defense of democratic freedoms; and the Joaquín Costa de Periodismo Prize for his work on Latin America's external debt. He is also an Honorary Award from the Madrid Press Association.

Among his latest publications are 'La larga marcha', 'La economía del miedo', 'Estos años bárbaros', 'Abuelo ¿cómo habéis consentido esto?', and 'Revoluciones'. He is co-author with Ana Cañil of 'Los Tyrakis: Una saga familiar para entender la crisis de Grecia'.

In Estefanía's opinion, "the main contract that must be signed in mature democratic societies is the intergenerational one, so that there are no setbacks in history and our descendants do not have to live worse than us." In his speech, Joaquín Estefanía will argue that "for half a century, young people have been disputing the monopoly of social transformation with the 'working class', since each action carried out by them corresponds to a reaction from the 'establishment' in order to recover the previous 'status quo'". Following this dynamic, the journalist concludes, "we have reached the Trump era."
