On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of Costa Teguise, the City Council commemorated the Civil Guard in an institutional act of Honors and Distinctions, awarding the Gold Medal for the exemplary professionalism and dedication for the work provided during these last years.
The event, held at the Santo Domingo Convent, was presided over by the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, accompanied by Colonel Vicente Reig Basset, head of the Las Palmas Command; the island delegate, Juan Ramón Pérez Borge; the Military Air Commander of the Lanzarote Airport, Colonel José Vicente Teruel Sánchez, among other civil and military authorities.
The development of the institutional act, introduced by María del Pino Fuentes de Armas, drafter of the files, began with the offering of honors by the councilor in charge of the file, Sara Bermúdez Aparicio, and with the reading of the plenary agreement by the accidental secretary, Onelia Pérez Betancort. As official chronicler of the Royal Villa of San Miguel Arcángel de Teguise, Francisco Hernández was in charge of making a portrait of the Civil Guard.
Next, the delivery of the Gold Medal and parchment took place by the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort, to the colonel chief of the Civil Guard Command in Las Palmas, Vicente Reig Basset, who thanked and highlighted "the close relationship and good harmony of work that exists with the Civil Guard on the island of Lanzarote", and signed the Book of Honors.
"We have much to thank in Lanzarote, Teguise and in our beloved nucleus of Costa Teguise, a place where residents coexist with tourism, to the Civil Guard, because their daily task - the one that goes unnoticed by the majority - contributes to making our presentation card to the world that of a quiet destination, without stridency, without insecurity being commented on by travelers' chronicles", said the mayor in his speech.
"Therefore, this gratitude materializes in the public recognition of the municipal Corporation that I preside over, whose members have unanimously agreed to grant them the highest distinction contained in our Regulations of Honors, Distinctions and Ceremonial, the Gold Medal of the Royal Villa of San Miguel Arcángel de Teguise", he concluded, expressing that "this honor is the first of many, thank you for accepting it and for taking care of all of us".
The musical interlude was provided by the pianist Javier Díaz, with one of Granados' Spanish Dances. It is also worth noting that, throughout Friday, the Civil Guard held an exhibition of resources, showcasing specialties such as SEPRONA, TEDAX and the Traffic Group, among others, to bring the Institution closer to all citizens. And, in addition, a conference was held on the history of the Civil Guard in the Civic Center of Costa Teguise, where a photographic exhibition on the history of the Civil Guard in the Canary Islands was inaugurated.
