The coast of Puerto del Carmen already shows, one more year, its blue flags. The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, together with the councilors of Beaches, Tourism and Classified and Harmless Activities, Nerea Santana, Amado Vizcaíno and Olivier Roper, respectively, have raised this Thursday morning the four blue flags awarded this year to the beaches of the municipality, Playa Grande, Matagorda, Los Pocillos and Playa Chica.
This badge awarded by the European Foundation for Environmental Education rewards the quality of the waters, accessibility for people with reduced mobility and the existence of information, cleaning, sanitary and rescue services. The mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, has been very satisfied because "one more year, the entire coastline of our municipality has been awarded with the blue flags, a badge highly valued not only by residents, but also by the tourists who visit us".
Both the mayor and the councilors emphasize that this environmental award represents "a recognition of the effort that the Tías City Council makes each year to maintain the cleanliness of our beaches, take care of the environment and eliminate all architectural barriers".
An investment of almost 400,000 to improve accessibility to beaches
In this sense, the Councilor for Beaches, Nerea Santana, advanced that "the works carried out on the beaches of Puerto del Carmen, together with others that will be executed shortly, will involve an investment of close to 400,000 euros to improve the accessibility of our beaches". "But in addition, we have acquired new amphibious chairs so that people with reduced mobility can enjoy the sea and the works of the new public bathrooms in Playa Grande have recently been completed," Santana stressed.
Likewise, Santana has also highlighted the investment in surveillance and lifeguard services, with twenty troops, including agents of the Local Beach Police and Emerlan volunteers.
For his part, the Councilor for Tourism, Amado Vizcaíno, has reiterated "the commitment to continue working and investing in the improvements of our beaches, providing them with better public services according to the first tourist area of Lanzarote".
"The criteria for granting the blue flags," says Vizcaíno, "are increasingly demanding at an international level, so we are very satisfied that the entire beach coastline of our municipality, more than four kilometers, has been awarded again with the blue flags".
