VI COCTELERÍA SOLIDARIA 2019

On the occasion of the festivity of Santa Marta, patron saint of hospitality, the Lanzarote Barman Association organized the VI Edition of Solidarity Cocktails" and the "V Gin Tonic Contest". An event that was held last Monday night in the halls of the Sociedad La Democracia in Arrecife. Through this act, the organizers collect non-perishable products to be donated to an NGO, which this year was Mararía.

The V Gin Tonic Contest began with a performance by the students of the dance school, Lanzarote Baila, directed by Professor Miguel Medina, who surprised the audience with their impressive choreographies to the rhythm of bachata, cha, cha, cha and salsa. Then, the 11 participants registered in this edition began to parade through the work table. While each of the contestants made their cocktails, the public followed each of their movements very carefully and once the jury gave the go-ahead, they were distributed to each of the tables so that the attendees could also taste them.

Once the work of the participants was finished and while the jury deliberated, the singer Daniel Moisés appeared on stage and entertained the public for a few minutes with his music and the good humor that characterizes him. Then, a video dedicated to César Manrique was projected on the occasion of his centenary and with the authorization of the Foundation that bears his name, they decided this year to dedicate it to his memory.

Before knowing the name of the winner, the vice president of the Sociedad La Democracia, Juan Carlos Alonso, took the floor and thanked everyone for their presence as well as the organizers for continuing to choose the Society's premises to celebrate the event. Next, it was the turn of the Councilor for Tourism of the Arrecife City Council, Armando Santana, who was very surprised by the level of the contest and pledged to continue collaborating from the areas he represents. Also Alfredo Díaz, representative of the César Manrique Foundation, addressed those present congratulating the contestants and the organization since it was the first time he had attended an event of this nature and he was very surprised, committing to make the odd cocktail at home to surprise his guests. The round of speeches was closed by the president of the Lanzarote Barman Association, Wenceslao Gil, who was very grateful for all the support received from the institutions that were by his side from the first moment, hotel facilities, Sociedad La Democracia, commercial firms, not forgetting the protagonists, the 11 contestants. The act ended with the reading of the jury's decision, with David Hidalgo Martínez winning with the cocktail called "Catherine 1964".
