The residents of La Villa de Teguise celebrated their traditional pilgrimage to the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves on Saturday afternoon, which departed at 4:30 p.m. from the vicinity of the Los Molinos stadium. Residents from different towns in the municipality, such as Los Valles, El Mojón, Teseguite and Nazaret, joined the walk.
Dressed in typical clothing and singing some verses of Canarian songs, the pilgrims also accompanied the route with local products, as well as water and wine. Although the weather was not the most favorable, the day was marked by a festive atmosphere and fellowship among the residents.
Upon arriving at the hermitage, everyone unloaded all the non-perishable products from the carts and deposited them on the Main Altar, next to the image of Nuestra Señora de Las Nieves. The mayor of the municipality, Oswaldo Betancort, who accompanied the pilgrims throughout the mountain route, was in charge, along with some of the councilors of the Municipal Corporation, of making the institutional offering. This was joined by that of many residents, who had prepared their individual offering with great enthusiasm.
Immediately afterwards, the musical offering began, which was enlivened by the parranda from the town of Mozaga "La Pichona", directed by Professor Toni Rodríguez. Its members offered the Virgin and all those present the most representative songs of Canarian folklore. Then it was the turn for the members of the folk group "Balcón de Liria", who came from the municipality of Hermigua, on the island of La Gomera. To the rhythm of chácaras and drums, they also joined their dances next to the image of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves.
After the pilgrimage and offering, the celebration of Holy Mass began, presided over by the parish priest of Teguise, Juan Antonio Artiles, which was followed by all those pilgrims who once again climbed the mountain to honor the Virgen de Las Nieves.
