At 8:00 p.m., the curtain of the Municipal Theater stage opened to give
start to the act of Honors and Distinctions, decorated for the occasion with the
rigor required by the solemn act.
The Municipal Choir opened the night with four themes, perfectly chosen
for this act, under the baton of Mariola Ferrer, receiving the applause of the
full capacity in each of the selected themes; "To adore the child", "Oh, light
of God", "My star is you" and "Villancico yaucano".
After the musical entrance, Francisco José Navarro gave way to the reading of the
plenary agreement, by Esther Rocío, official of the City Council
of San Bartolomé, by which the Honors and Distinctions are granted in this
eleventh edition.
The Mayoress was in charge of doing the honors, with an emotional speech,
short and dense, in which she highlighted the importance of these awards, which highlight
people, associations and entities in their social work, to the community and
selflessly. Words of respect and affection for the work of "Pito", during
all these years in which he has known football, wrestling and petanque, from
all fronts, as a fighter, as a player, as a referee and as part
of the board of directors. The award to the Palliative Care Unit of Lanzarote,
adds the Mayoress, is the award for care work for advanced patients
and terminals, for their important contribution to the community, and named
those who belonged and were fundamental to the development of the
unit, Encarna Nicolás, Carol Sánchez, Mª del Mar Bonilla, Yenifer Lorenzo,
to the current team María Jesús Pérez Díaz, José Agustín González Moreno,
Marta Balboa, Elisa Machín, Elisa Corujo and the recent incorporation of José
Teudis Fernández. To all of them for being a reference in comprehensive care
efficient. "Exercising professions from consciousness always gives optimal
results, and this award is proof of this, highlighted the Mayoress.
The councilor, Concepción Álvarez, on behalf of the entire Corporation, made
an outline of Felipe Martín's curriculum, his extensive sports career
from all fronts, anecdotes, memories of these decades dedicated to
sports, and to San Bartolomé.
Felipe, went on stage, next to the Mayoress, with the entire stalls
standing, excited, and thanked San Bartolomé, his family,
and dedicated the award to a friend "Colón". Applause and tears, applause for the
trajectory and the deserved award and tears, because these awards do not stop
to bring memories in such an important moment, as it is, that your people
recognize you. He received the Ajey award for sports work, from the hands of the
Mayoress and a parchment from Concepción Álvarez.
The night, with great emotion, continued with the Ajey award for health work,
reading the curriculum of the Palliative Care Unit of Lanzarote, the
councilor Carmen González, on behalf of the entire Corporation, who highlighted
the great work they do professionally and humanely. "This unit started
in 2005, and to this day they have treated 1,024 patients." He added, "experts say
caring is physically and mentally costly, a beautiful task
and committed that requires as much love as warmth to carry it out, a
very satisfying experience when the ultimate purpose of the
palliative care: to die in peace".
Erasmo García, Director of the Lanzarote Health Area, asked that they collect
this award, the members of the Palliative Care Unit of Lanzarote,
present at the event, with the stalls standing, applauding them. Another
tremendously exciting moment of the night, which started more than
a tear among the public. They thanked each other amid applause. The Mayoress
presented the Award and Carmen González the parchment on behalf of the entire
Corporation.
The Municipal Corporation went on stage, and together they took the photo of
family, with the two winners.
The night continued with music by the mezzo-soprano Belén Elvira, who
performed 4 songs, in her hometown, to the applause of "her audience", delighted
the attendees, with "Habanera", "Is he there, laughing?!, "Chotis, "Tell me yes"? and
as a surprise for the entire audience, with candles in their hands, the Municipal Choir
accompanied Belén Elvira, with music by the master on the piano Juan A.
Álvarez Parejo, singing together "Silent Night".
Affectionate and emotional night in which San Bartolomé paid tribute to the work
that neighbors carry out individually, as in this case, Felipe Martín, or to
groups such as the Palliative Care Unit of Lanzarote, which go further
beyond health work.
The act lasted one hour and twenty-five minutes, a short space of time, to
pay tribute to two social works so broad and splendid.
