The family of the Rubicón folklore group from Yaiza celebrated its II Festival last Friday, September 7. The event, which was held in the Plaza de Los Remedios in Yaiza, began at 9:30 p.m. with the story of some girls about how their day-to-day life unfolded from dawn until nightfall. Then, the first musical sounds were heard with airs of seguidillas sung by several soloists from the group, as well as the guest soloist from Fuerteventura, Lidia Moreno.
For this edition, the members of the dance troupe of the Timbayba folklore group from Tinajo were also invited, who shared the stage with the dancers from the organizing group Rubicón. During the almost two hours of the festival, not only traditional themes of Canarian folklore were heard, but they were also intermingled with some songs of national pop, some as well known as , Me Dueles or Noelia among others.
The family of the Rubicón folklore group had the collaboration of musician friends who supported each of the songs that sounded during the night even more. The stage was decorated with the purest Canarian flavor where the farming tools were on display, also including some cages with chickens and rabbits. Four artisans, very well dressed in typical costumes, were in charge of kneading the gofio in the bag and once the pellet was made, distributing it among the attending public who tasted it with pleasure.
In this edition, the Rubicón family wanted to recognize the work of the folklorist Juan Quintero for his dedication for so many years singing to our land. Two relatives of Juan Quintero went on stage to collect a commemorative plaque. The festival ended with a very varied potpourri of Canarian and Mexican songs, filling the stage with the public and dancers from the two participating groups, thus putting an end to the festival.
