Puerto del Carmen experienced one of the most anticipated days in the celebration of the La Tiñosa festivities on Friday afternoon and evening. Numerous residents and tourists gathered in the El Fondeadero area to enjoy the "most multitudinous sancocho of which there is record in the Canary Islands", according to the City Council.
The tasting of the traditional sancocho, which is always held on the last Friday of the festivities of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, distributed more than 3,000 servings of sea bass, potatoes and sweet potatoes. Free of charge, the numerous attendees were able to taste this characteristic delicacy of Canarian gastronomy.
After many hours of work, which began in the morning, the fishermen of La Tiñosa and the members of the Festival Committee, together with the municipal government group, as tradition dictates in these festivals, prepared a rich sancocho with about 500 kilograms of salted sea bass, as many potatoes and sweet potatoes and Canarian mojo. To this were also added 50 kilos of white conejero cheese and about 200 liters of white malvasia wine.
Once the sancocho was finished, which was served by the mayor of Tías, Pancho Hernández, the deputy mayor, Amado Jesús Vizcaíno, and all the members of the Government group who joined the members of the Festival Committee, neighbors and fishermen of La Tiñosa, the Plaza del Varadero was once again filled with a large audience in a great atmosphere to enjoy a night of revelry with the performances of the groups Raíces and Pa`l Porrón.
