Still with the taste of grapes and the exchange of good wishes, the welcome party to 2019 started punctually, at half past twelve at night, in the Plaza de Playa Blanca, where the joy caused by the arrival of the new year was celebrated with an explosive mix of rock and roll and merengue by two great exponents: the band Los Rebeldes led by Carlos Segarra, a rocker with a lot of experience, and the Gran Canaria orchestra Furia Joven, generous in singing, dancing and choreography.
Los Rebeldes were on stage for an hour and a half performing songs that have kept the band alive in the Spanish music scene, so much so that this 2019 marks 40 years of artistic career, starting in Playa Blanca a cycle that for the moment has 25 performances closed.
Segarra, voice and guitar, and his three swords, Mikel Solbes, drums, Tico Portolés, sax and guitar, and bassist Juan Carlos Quintero, offered in the Plaza del Carmen a repertoire with successful songs from the eighties to the present. 'Mescalina', 'Eres Especial', 'Mediterráneo', 'Rosa y la Cruz' or 'Mi Generación' touched the fiber of the most rock and roll fans.
Playa Blanca went from rock and roll to merengue. Seven singers and dancers in front and thirteen musicians wrapping the swing of the visible faces of the orchestra unleashed two hours of pure Caribbean flavor. The boys and girls of Furia Joven found the stage too small and decided to perform part of their performance singing and dancing among the public. Although it seemed to be the time for the youngest, those in their forties and older knew how to withstand the 'Fury' by following the dance without any mishaps.
The municipality of Yaiza said goodbye to 2018, congratulated 2019 and is already thinking about the Three Kings parades on Saturday, January 5 to close the festive program of this endearing period of leisure. The Three Kings parade in the town of Yaiza will be at 17:00h and the one in Playa Blanca at 19:00 hours, with a previous visit from their Majesties of the East to the Timanfaya camel pen (11:00h), where the mayor, Óscar Noda, will give them the keys to the municipality.
