The festivities in honor of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Caleta de Famara already have its brand new Queen of the Festivities 2016, Omaira González, with her two first ladies, María Tavío and Arima Alonso. On Friday night and under the artistic direction of the young Orlando Callero de León, the Election of the Queen of the Caleta de Famara 2016 festivities took place. At 9:00 p.m., complying with the scheduled time and before the watchful eye of the public that packed the facilities of the pier, Evelyn Díaz Sánchez, Queen of the past festivities, who would crown her successor, made an appearance on the stage. Very elegant and wearing a dress designed by Oswaldo Machín, she walked across the stage surrounded by the applause of the public, thus giving way to the first round of the candidates.

A total of ten young women paraded dressed in the traditional costume of Lanzarote, 19th and 20th centuries, made by the artisans of Mercería Tahíche, Rosi Ruiz and Violeta Santos, who were in charge of dressing the candidates, taking care of even the smallest detail. While the candidates were parading, they were accompanied by two young timple players, members of the Guagime de Tahíche Folklore Group, Adrián Hernández and Raúl Caraballo. Very well dressed in the traditional costume of Lanzarote, they performed some sweet folías. Next, the singers Adrián Caraballo and Almudena Hernández delighted the public with their songs.

The second round of the candidates was in a bikini in front of the watchful eyes of the members of the jury and a public that supported them with their applause, thus giving way to the dancers from the dance school
