The Resident Internal Nurses (EIR) of the 2023-2025 promotions of the Health Services Management of the Lanzarote Health Area, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, have presented their research papers of scientific end of residence in each of the specialties.
The scientific meeting, organized by the Teaching Commission of the Management, was held in the assembly hall of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, this Thursday, May 15, and was attended by the Director of Nursing of Primary Care of the Management, Felicidad Béjar, and the head of studies Verónica Gutiérrez, as well as the tutors, residents and their families.
The eight new Nursing specialists belong to the IV promotion of Family and Community Nursing residents, the IV of Pediatric Nursing and the VIII of Obstetric-Gynecological Nursing, who have completed their specialized training in the health centers and hospitals of the island during the last two years, supervised by the Teaching Commission of the Management of the Lanzarote Health Area.
Scientific works, the last step to the specialty
The five scientific research works prepared by the new specialists have addressed topics related to each of the specialties. Thus, the Family and Community Nursing residents have presented Photovoice, a health tool for the population of San Bartolomé and Comfort perceived by patients of the Palliative Care Unit of Lanzarote.
On the other hand, the Obstetric-Gynecological Nursing residents presented the study Effectiveness of an educational intervention on knowledge and attitudes towards contraceptives in the young university population of Lanzarote.
While the new specialists in Pediatric Nursing presented the works Satisfaction of the main caregivers in pediatric hospitalization in the Pediatric Service of the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital and The perception and attitudes of parents in Lanzarote about childhood vaccination.
The presentation of the end-of-specialty works is the last academic act carried out by the residents before completing their training and becoming specialist nurses after passing the evaluation committee phase.
Two years of training
The training period for the new health professionals has been two years, a time in which they have received theoretical-practical training and have carried out healthcare activity in the island's health centers while participating in research activity.
During the event, the head of training Verónica Gutiérrez highlighted the commitment to excellence and scientific activity of the residents, so their incorporation into the public health system will contribute to improving patient care from humanization and evidence.
A total of 65 residents, 46 Resident Internal Doctors (MIR) and 19 EIR, are currently training in the Teaching Commission of the Health Services Management of Lanzarote, which trains specialists from all over Spain in advanced care skills, both care and research.
