The police operation, integrated by various State security forces and corps, has carried out nearly 200 sanctions in Lanzarote during Friday night and early Saturday morning for non-compliance with the measures established for the prevention of COVID-19.
The vast majority of these sanctions have been carried out in various neighborhoods of Arrecife, such as San Francisco Javier, Argana Alta, the Charco area and La Marina, focusing on areas susceptible to gatherings for drinking parties and bars.
The reported infractions are, fundamentally, records against the public health of people and establishments that fail to comply with health regulations.
Since this morning, Lanzarote and La Graciosa are at the maximum level of health alert, level 4, due to the increase in positive cases of coronavirus and the high number of hospitalized patients.
Given this delicate situation, the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, has announced that nearly forty members of the UME, soldiers of the Army and agents of the Autonomous Police are already working in Lanzarote to reinforce the established security and surveillance device. These professionals will work in coordination with the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote until mid-February.
The island president insisted that they will continue fighting, with all available means, to face this pandemic and, according to her, "together, and with responsibility, we will manage to bend the curve of infections."
Thus, and during all weekends, the reinforcement of the inspection, surveillance and disinfection operation of public spaces will consist of the incorporation of 15 more UME personnel, who will work in the disinfection of hospitals, the penitentiary center and the Covid auto area; 14 soldiers of the Army, whose work will be the disinfection of all health centers with interior nebulization, and 6 members of the Autonomous Police, who carry out inspection work in the busiest areas such as Arrecife, Playa Honda and Tías.
