Mari Luz Moya, activist for the rights of people with disabilities in Lanzarote, dies

Born in Cádiz, she moved with her family to Valterra and spent the rest of her life on the island of Lanzarote.

Activist Mari Luz Moya passed away this past Tuesday, July 11, due to a serious illness. The woman, known for her fight for the rights of people with disabilities, tried to achieve accessibility in public spaces and buildings on the island. 

Born in Cádiz, she moved with her family to Valterra, in Arrecife, because her father worked as a fisherman on the island. She spent the rest of her life there. Since then she had been living in a wheelchair. 

On the occasion of her death, members of the Coro Iris del Mar, from the Arrecife neighborhood of Valterra, dedicated a song to her at the funeral home this Tuesday.
