Lanzarote and La Graciosa will continue for another week at alert level 3 for coronavirus. This has been decreed by the Government of the Canary Islands, after the Governing Council held this Thursday, following the report of the Ministry of Health on the epidemiological situation of the archipelago.
The only island in which changes have been approved in that meeting is El Hierro, which will rise to level 3 from next Monday, together with Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. For their part, Gran Canaria and La Palma will be from Saturday at level 4, as already agreed last Tuesday, joining Tenerife. Thus, only La Gomera will be at level 2, known as the "yellow traffic light".
In the Autonomous Community as a whole, between January 11 and 17, 32,636 new cases of Covid were reported, which represents an increase of around 11.1% in the daily average of new cases in relation to the previous week.
The IA rate at 7 days in the Canary Islands increased by 11.1%, so that, from a weekly average of 1,350.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, it rose to 1,499.9 cases this week. The largest increase is observed in El Hierro, but all the islands are at a very high risk level in this indicator, as is the case with the IA at 7 days in people over 65 years of age and in the IA at 14 days that are at very high risk in all the islands.
Healthcare indicators
Regarding healthcare indicators, the daily average of occupied conventional hospital beds increases by 35.2% compared to the previous week and is at high risk. The percentage of occupation in Tenerife, Gran Canaria and La Palma is at a very high risk level; in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote at medium risk; and in La Gomera and El Hierro at low risk.
The number of occupied ICU beds maintains the upward trend, increasing by 16.7 percent compared to the previous evaluation. The percentage of occupation in the Archipelago as a whole is 20.9%. Tenerife and Gran Canaria are at a very high risk level, Fuerteventura remains at a medium risk level, while the rest of the islands are in controlled circulation.
The rate of new hospitalizations in the ICU due to Covid is 3.45 new weekly admissions to the ICU due to COVID-19 per 100,000 inhabitants. Gran Canaria rises to a very high risk level and La Palma remains at a medium risk level, however in Tenerife a positive trend is observed as it descends to low risk; while Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Gomera and El Hierro descend or remain in controlled circulation.
Median age
The median age of the total number of people hospitalized for Covid in the last 30 days is 70 years and 63 years in those admitted to the ICU, all being over 16 years of age. 45.6% of the people admitted to critical units diagnosed during the last 30 days had not received the full vaccination schedule.
78.7% of the people admitted for Covid and diagnosed in the last 30 days had no previous pathologies. This percentage increases in unvaccinated patients, in whom 87.7% had no other known pathologies.
