Learning a course combined with leisure workshops and fun activities are the ingredients of the second edition of the Summer School held for the first time in Lanzarote. Young students from all the islands of the Archipelago can participate in this meeting. The meeting will take place from next Tuesday to Sunday at the La Santa hostel and is organized by the Canary Islands Student Union (UDECA).
A total of one hundred young people can participate in this activity. So far, about 80 places have been filled. Most of these are boys from the other Islands. In this sense, Sheila Martín, general secretary of UDECA, explained that in Tenerife and Gran Canaria the participation is being quite good "exceeding the planned places in the beginning and even a little more has been granted". The least encouraged are the young people from El Hierro and La Palma who do not want to miss their lustrums festivals. As for Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, they are the islands with the fewest attendees. This is due to a problem in the distribution of brochures with information on these two islands. For this reason, the registration period in Lanzarote has been extended until the same day of the initiative for being the headquarters of this meeting.
To register, you must contact the telephone numbers that appear in the information brochures that have already been distributed in various parts of Arrecife. Then you have to make a bank deposit of 20 euros for young people from other islands and 15 euros in the case of Lanzarote students. Keep in mind that these prices include everything from air transfers to accommodation and meals. This has been possible thanks to the help and subsidies of various institutions and entities.
The activities
The program of activities has been structured so that all participants spend the day doing different activities. In this way, the mornings will begin with the courses while the afternoons will be dedicated to workshops and other events such as presentations on youth and participation or educational reform. On the other hand, recreational activities will be carried out with DJ parties or concerts. Finally, there will be an excursion to La Santa beach and another to the Timanfaya Natural Park.
To make the distribution, those interested have to fill out a registration form in which they indicate the order of preference of the four courses that will be taught as well as the different workshops. In this way, the organizers will try to meet the demands of all requests, although in a certain way that will depend on how many people fill the places.
