The 'Lánzate' group, which brings together gays, lesbians, transsexuals and bisexuals, had a float in the Gay Pride parade in Madrid held this weekend. The Tourism Board and the Foreign Promotion Society of the Cabildo of Lanzarote contributed to the sponsorship of the float, together with Viajes La Lupe.
The parade, which had 31 floats, was supported by one million people, who took to the streets to demand "A school without closets", which translates into the insertion of values of freedom and sexual equality in the education system.
The float carried the slogan "Lanzarote, the different island. Feel at home", next to the web address of the Tourist Board.
The councilor of the Tourist Board and the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism, Carlos Espino, considers the dissemination of the Lanzarote destination in new sectors and markets considered of quality to be fundamental.
"Although we do not have official statistics, the profile of gay tourism corresponds to a couple of professionals, with significant salaries, cultured, who travel between two and three times a year, who choose beaches or large urban centers and always, friendly destinations", the councilor pointed out.
