Lanzarote has already registered its first two cases of coronavirus. According to health sources confirmed to La Voz, those affected are two tourists who arrived on the island on a flight from Madrid.

Apparently, these people are staying in a hotel in Playa Blanca, awaiting the measures to be taken by the health authorities. As will be recalled, on March 3, the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, stated that he would not quarantine an entire hotel again but would take "other decisions."

While until 6:00 p.m. this Thursday the tests that had been carried out on around thirty people had been negative, these first two positives on the island have subsequently been confirmed.

In order to respond to this health situation, once hospitalizations are required, the Molina Orosa has enabled the old surgery plant, where the future Hemodynamics Unit is planned to be built. There, according to sources consulted by La Voz, there are 16 beds available. There are also two isolation boxes in the Emergency Room.

To carry out the diagnostic test for coronavirus in Lanzarote, the person must meet several requirements, which are having traveled to risk areas or having been in close contact with other people who have traveled or are infected, and presenting a respiratory clinic.

Information lines about the coronavirus

The Ministry of Health maintains an activated free telephone line (900 112 061), from which a nursing team, under the coordination of the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), will attend to requests for information from citizens about prevention measures, possibilities of contagion and false concepts related to the virus.

In addition, the importance of people who believe they may have symptoms related to the coronavirus (cough, sore throat, fever and feeling short of breath) and who have returned in the last 14 days from any of the risk areas or been related to someone who comes from those points, contacting 1-1-2, avoiding going directly to Primary Care centers or Hospital Emergency Rooms.

Through this channel, the extraction of samples will be managed at home, although the population is also asked to use this resource rationally and only when the above conditions are met.
