Enrique Martinón Armas, one of the most important hoteliers in Spain, founder and promoter of the Invercar Grumasa Group, has died at the age of 81, on the afternoon of Sunday, September 25, at his residence in Madrid, according to the Dominican Republic's Tourism Diary arecoa.com. It is precisely there that the businessman born in the Canary Islands established the strength of his hotel empire.

"Martinón senior was considered the main tourist businessman born in the Canary Islands," explains the media. "He lived between Punta Cana and Madrid and was in love with RD. He firmly committed to our country as an investor and as a place of residence," he says.

Enrique Martinón Armas from Lanzarote was aware in 1987 of the possibilities of the Caribbean as a tourist destination of world importance and decided to bet on the internationalization of his companies by constituting the mixed company Cubacan.

Through it, he participated for more than a decade in the construction and commissioning of four hotels in Cuba, operated by Meliá. Subsequently, the tourist group of Canarian origin made the decision to continue its expansion in other Caribbean destinations, as well as to expand its presence in Spain. Thus, in 2001 two hotels were built in the Riviera Maya and on his native island, and throughout this century, he has continued his expansion with five new hotels in Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
