The eco-areas of Lanzarote and La Graciosa have become the first two in the Canary Islands to sign, by their driving groups, the manifesto of adhesion by which they commit to "execute the action plans designed for their eco-areas", within the project of the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands to promote the ecotourism excellence of the coast.

Of the 16 eco-areas diagnosed in the Archipelago, the one located in Lanzarote, on the coast of Tías, was this week the second formally constituted in the Canary Islands, after that of La Graciosa which was constituted in February.

This eco-area called "Playa Chica La Tiñosa" aims to "turn the original area of Puerto del Carmen into a space of ecotourism excellence, one of the main coastal tourist milestones of the Archipelago".

From the Government of the Canary Islands, they emphasize that "the effort of the driving group, which has brought together groups from the area, from the fishing sector to the tourism and restaurant sector, plus the local associative movement, has made possible a diagnosis that advocates for valuing the tradition and history of this place, to constitute it as a benchmark of the tourist quality of the coast of Tías".

The regional Executive points out that the joint work between the facilitating technicians of the Department led by Yaiza Castilla, responsible for the project, together with the Fishermen's Association and the Zeconsciente project, among other actors, "has allowed the signing of the agreement for the creation of the Playa Chica La Tiñosa eco-area". In addition, they point out that they have had the collaboration of the Buenamar Canaria Tourist Product Club, which promotes the value of the small-scale artisanal fishing sector as an innovative tourist product based on tradition and the sustainable practices of the sailors.

From the Government of the Canary Islands, they explain that the Eco-areas project is a singular expression of the "blue economy", which has funding from the European Regional Development Funds (Feder) and is a commitment from the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands "for a modality of sustainable and quality tourism, based on the conservation of natural and cultural heritage".

Currently, the Eco-areas Network in the Canary Islands is in the process of incorporating 16 coastal spaces on the eight islands.

"Each eco-area is a recognition of an area of excellence in ecotourism sustainability that contemplates and analyzes in more than 40 indicators the environmental, sociocultural, economic and local tourism aspects in cooperation with the administrations", explain from the Government of the Canary Islands. In addition, they point out that the project is based "on the promotion of initiatives and objectives under the principles of participation through horizontal management, that is, from the citizens to the administrations".

For this, from the Government of the Canary Islands, they affirm that the agreements with the City Councils and Cabildos "are fundamental", since it is about "establishing a two-way dialogue, in the exercise of good governance and the 2030 Agenda".
