The Government Council of the Canary Islands, meeting this Tuesday, has awarded the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands 2011 to Ladislao Rodríguez Bonilla from Haría, according to reports from the northern Town Hall.
Ladislao Rodríguez Bonilla was born in Haría on November 21, 1942, and has dedicated his entire life to collaborating with different sports and social associations, not only in the municipality of Haría, but also in the rest of the Canary Islands. "His humanitarian and selfless character has led him to establish a deep commitment to the society in which he lives, becoming a prominent figure in the history of Lanzarote," they point out from the City Council.
In addition, from the Town Hall they add that "his deafness has not prevented him from integrating into Lanzarote society, participating and collaborating with different entities of all kinds. He has never stopped collaborating selflessly with humanitarian associations, as he is a charismatic figure and an exceptional public relations person, with a special ability to communicate with others."
Ladislao Rodríguez Bonilla is known inside and outside the island of Lanzarote with the nickname "El Mudo de Haría" (The Mute of Haría), thanks to his collaboration with the football teams of the municipality, whom he accompanies on their travels. Currently, he continues to collaborate in any humanitarian, charitable or sporting event.
The distinction will be presented at the institutional event of Canary Islands Day, which will be held on Monday, May 30, at 8:30 p.m., at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
