The town of La Caleta paid a heartfelt tribute this Thursday to its oldest resident, Feliciano Tavío, who was surrounded by his family, neighbors and vacationers from Famara. During the event, organized by the Department of Social Welfare of Teguise, led by Nori Machín, a video of the protagonist was shown, recalling his 89 years of experiences in La Caleta, and a group of people read several poems on stage.
The Senior Animation area is developing various acts of homage to the elderly in the towns of the municipality of Teguise. For Machín, "this recognition of the elders of each town is more than necessary, as these people have forged the present of many families and have contributed to making our municipality what it is today."
On the other hand, the festivities of La Caleta de Famara recovered this Thursday, August 31, the marine pilgrimage, which had not been celebrated for years, but which was attended by hundreds of neighbors, who joined the pilgrimage dressed in typical marine clothing. The pilgrimage accompanied the image of the Virgin to the town's pier, where pilgrims and visitors enjoyed a great sardine barbecue.
The culmination of this festive day was the fireworks from the beach and the Noche de Parranda, which brought together hundreds of people on the pier ready to enjoy music and dancing in a relaxed atmosphere until dawn.
The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, thanked "the warmth, participation and the magnificent festive atmosphere that is experienced these days in La Caleta", wishing that "the conclusion and the balance of the same is as pleasant and satisfactory as in previous editions". "I hope that this weekend civility and respect for La Caleta de Famara and its unique environment will prevail, and above all, that common sense will prevail so that we can all enjoy a few days with family and friends, and taking into consideration the work of the Festival Committee, the volunteers, the public services, as well as the State Security Forces", added Betancort.
