This Wednesday, the Health Department performed the coronavirus diagnostic test on a man in Lanzarote who tested negative, and is awaiting the results of a test on a woman "who has been in contact with Italians." This has been confirmed by health sources, who have explained that there have been a total of four people under study on the island since this disease became known.

The first, which La Voz had already reported, was a four-year-old child who was isolated in his home after traveling to Italy and who later tested negative. In addition, this week an Italian woman who was admitted to the Molina Orosa Hospital with a hip fracture and who began to have a fever was tested. However, in this case, the tests also ruled out infection.

As for the man who was tested this Wednesday, he had been in Valencia and went to the hospital with pneumonia. However, it has finally been confirmed that he has influenza A, which in its day was also a cause for alarm and is currently common in many patients who suffer from seasonal flu. Thus, of the four cases that have been under study on the island, three have already been ruled out and the results of the fourth are awaited.

According to health sources, the Molina Orosa Hospital only performs coronavirus diagnostic tests on people who meet two requirements, which are having been in risk areas in the last two weeks, such as China and Italy, and presenting "significant respiratory symptoms".

However, it is recommended not to go to the Emergency Room, but to call 112, who, after completing a telephone questionnaire, rules out or determines if the person is suspected. If it is considered that the person could have the coronavirus, in the case of Lanzarote a team made up of two nurses with a vehicle has been set up, who go directly to collect the samples at home.
